a friend was talking about having to work for someone who was a "bean counter". I said that should be "legumatician".
it got a good laugh, and today a search netted zero hits...

anybody else heard it before?

What, bean counter, as in "accountant"? Worked for them, had them work for me, and by-god married one of them, old son.

I nearly wrote "What 'bean counter' as in 'timeo donaos et donas ferentes'?" But that would have been just a bit too obscure.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with being a bean counter, did I?

I jes' thought it were a clever coinage, legumatician...

Well, I like it.

And we could pay them peanuts.

On balance, I'd have to say that it is a nice coinage, etaoin. While giving credit where it is due, I hope the effort of creating the word wasn't too taxing for you.

t'sa shame I can't use it in French though since calling someone a legume means he is and idiot.

My bean-counter hubby wouldn't like it all that much

Dear Roger: There seems to be no rush to do better.
That says a lot. Bill
