Depends on whether you're using German Latin, Italian Latin or what. Roger sings it in the German style with a ts for the c and a hard g on the cut he gave us in his swan.mp3 link. We use the Italian ny pronunciation in our chorus, but when I'm singing it to my own mediævaloid setting I pronounce it tsingkne

is the "g" hard?

Well, it depends on how you want to pronounce it. Latin was learned as a second language in school throughout Europe, and every nation had its own pronunciation. Added to this is that many singers today pronounce Latin in the same way based on their original languages. (Using SAMPA http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/sampa/home.htm) For Germans: /tsign@/, for Italians /tSiJE/, for Romans (caution reconstruction) /kigne/. If you want to learn more about how scholars have reconstructed Roman pronunciation, see W. S Allen's Vox Latina.

Vox Latina. Great book. It asks, and answers those two essential questions: How do we know? and Who gives a rat's patootie?

Thank you for the link, etaoin.

I've tried to download this several times, but my new computer just isn't cooperating. Hopefully my DH will give me a hand with it this weekend. Based on the responses, it's well worth listening to. :-)
