What do you call the levels of college students in a four-year program, then, if not freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior?

1st/2nd/3rd/4th years as the case may be.

Much more obvious.

Much more obvious.

But not near as much fun.

Then there's minor league baseball levels

Rookie
Single A short season
Low A
High A
AA
AAA

There are rookie teams, too? I'd only ever thought that rookie was a term applied to a new(ish) player.

There's even two levels of Rookie league. The Appalachian and Pioneer Leagues take mostly kids drafted out of high school and maybe lesser college players. Then there's the Gulf Coast League and the Arizona League that take the really marginal choices. They don't even encourage fan support.

What are the boxing terms? I think flyweight and bantam weight are two. [ hiding black eyes e]

There's also welterweight, middle weight and heavy weight. Not sure which order the first two go in.

Linnaeus the father of modern taxonomy classified all organisms in a hierarchy of seven levels - KINGDOM PHYLUM CLASS ORDER FAMILY GENUS SPECIES; (two were added on later; it was orginally five). He also is credited with the binomial nomenclature - identifying organisms by the genus and the species name in that order, e.g., Homo sapiens

This dictionary of Latin and Greek words used in plant names might come in useful: http://www.winternet.com/~chuckg/dictionary.html
