Here are the results for Kibitka... I am sorry to say wofa but your armil theory has been destroyed once again! (Sorry!)...elifit, AlimaeHP and tsuwm all got the right answer and Buff - you can't vote twice! (even for two different answers! wink ) Well done all and thanks for participating...I will put up another word tomorrow I think... grin

A Kibitka - an indigenous North American card game which often attracts many spectators, due to the vocal and sometimes physical nature of the play [tsuwm] BranShea

B Kibitka - Javanese wraparound baby sling, made of a length of batik which is secured by a knot in a sash style position [Candy] wofahulicodoc

C Kibitka – a type of Russian hooded sled often used as a movable habitation [True Definition] elifit, AlimaeHP, tsuwm

D Kibitka - One of the many diminishing native languages spoken by residents in a quiet corner of the Kamchatka Peninsula, in the Russian Far East. [LukeJavan8]

E Kibitka - n female ceremonial headwear on the occasion of wedding in the Belarusian tradition [BranShea] Faldage

F Kibitka - the first dog (if a female) born in a litter of sled dogs (Inuit) [Buffalo Shrdlu] Avy

G Kibitka - a Polish sausage made from a mixture of goat meat and pork, flavoured with garlic, sage, fennel, and basil. [Faldage] LukeJavan8, olly

H Kibitka - n a specialised Inuit knife with a curved blade [Jackie]

I Kibitka - an island in the North Pacific Ocean, westernmost of the Aleutian chain, 250 km (155 mi) off the Kamchatka Peninsula. Still under Russian sovereignty. [ wofahulicodoc] Jackie

J Kibitka - colloquial term for "nice lady", comes from Polish kobitka: "nice woman", long o changing into short i in order to follow original stress pattern in which the second syllable is stressed. [elifit] Buffalo Shrdlu, Candy

Oh and here is a picture of a kibitka...

there are a couple of old lexicographer's precepts that go like this: a) be brief, b) keep it simple. these predate online dictionaries, which seemingly have less stringent space requirements, but.

anyway, applying these, and also considering a comment in the voting thread regarding Too Much Information, I arrived, as I mentioned in the event, at the choice of C or H. in fact, I was just about to pull the trigger on H when it struck me that not even the OED uses an obvious Brit. spelling such as "specialised" within their definitions! (sorry, Jackie - too clever by half. : )

-joe (but I couldn't avoid the kibbutz play in my own def'n) friday
___

btw, bex, you didn't mention the source for your True Definition..

I knew they existed but not what they were called.

I liked your one Bran, but it was too close to mine, so I thought it an untruth wink

I was persuaded by your background knowledge elifit laugh good first go.

Yeh..

I wonder, but I suppose I will never get the true unthruth about the vocal and physical nature of a nonexisting cardgame.

I have a mental picture of kibitzers (not to be confused with kibbutzes, which I seem to do) gone out of control.
