I've forgot. Can anyone help me? What's the word for the tiny little scored grooves on the sides of paper clips?

wow, this has been harder to track down than I expected! but I did find "serrations" (scroll way down to the "Collette") listed.

nowadays they're mostly called "nonslip"...

Amazing! I've never in my life seen any other than the Improved Gem Paperclip and the Perfected Gem Paperclip.
We never had those with "serrations". Nice page Etaoin; all those different forms!

Yes, very nice page. I never knew that those very beautiful ones were called "Owl Clips".

I would have guessed that the indentations were called knurls, but “serrations” seems to be the industry-accepted standard.

'the nifty paperclip'
For me a bonus word: nifty:–adjective 1. attractively stylish or smart: a nifty new dress for Easter.
2. very good; fine; excellent: a nifty idea.
3. substantial; sizable: We sold the car for a nifty profit.

Never seen or heard that one before.

Still hear it occasionally. Honda also had a scooter out around the Eighties known as the 'Nifty Fifty'

huh, I use it quite frequently, though there's no denying it has gone out of favor.
