Actually, karst which I thought was German, is said to be from Serbo-Croatian.
karst
n.
Ger, after Karst, name of the hinterland of Trieste, altered Slovenian Kras6 a region made up of porous limestone containing deep fissures and sinkholes and characterized by underground caves and streams

How about that. My dictionary says it is a German word! So I was right, after all.
I was reminded of the word, which was used in story about the Spring Gihon in the Bible. For a story
about that, see:http://www.uh.edu/engines/epi664.htm
