While trying to learn something about an astragal, I came upon the most wonderful glossary of words pertaining to doors. Who knew?

I grew up singing these great songs...

Me, too. The combination of Astrud Gilberto's voice and Stan Getz' sax makes me all quivery.

Ipanema always made me think of a brand of toothpaste.

Yeah, Bill, it was Ipana toothpaste. Back in the good ol' days when I played a lot of trad jazz for moolah, we used to introduce the song as "The Girl from Ipana". It was appropriate, because there was a girl in an Ipana commercial on TV ...

Pfranz, Pfranz, Pfranz. Bossa nova is not "trad jazz."

Says who? Apart from you, of course, ASp!

Apart from ASp and anyone knows bossa nova and jazz.

And it sounds so much better in portugues. Makes the English version sound like a march.

Not gunna argue over daffynitions. I got paid to play trad jazz. GfI was on the list. I played. I got paid. Ergo it's trad jazz. To me, anyway.

I agree.

I just found out that Bebel Gilberto is NOT Astrud Gilberto's daughter but rather the daughter of Joao Gilberto and his second wife (Astrud was his first). Bebel sings well, too.
