So Max, tell us. Is it safe to go in?

>Is it safe to go in?

Well, I'm trying to to tidy it up a bit before all you bottom-dwelling Northerners come in and mess it all up. Looks OK so far, but.

Thanks. We'll call it the year of the Max

The Boston TV news staions showed a bit of the New Year fireworks in Sydney Australia while we were still gearing up ! Quite a show!

A little late, but - Happy New Year everyone! May your wishes for 2004 come true and may the optimists among us prove realists in terms of our New Year objectives. So that not only do we keep to our resolutions, but they then deliver our expectations. Sententious? Who? Me?

And a late same to you dxb. Have you ever noticed that when someone pessimizes (is there a verb for attempting to depress those around you) eg you say what a gorgeous day it is and they grump that the forecast calls for rain tomorrow, they hide behind the "I'm only being realistic" defence. as though admitting that something good is happening is delusional.

Dear etaoin: Der Quibblemeister was surprised to find that the version of "Mickey Finn" he had heard was wrong. See what Word-Detective says:scroll down 2/3

thanks, Dr. Bill. the origin of akimbo was also new to me.

What's the antonym? Optimistifying? And if nobody else can see why you're saying whatever it is, I guess you'd be optimystifying.
