If you're checking out everything2.com, be sure to do a search for posts by Gritchka, who used to post here as NicholasW. His contributions to everything2 are awesome, IMHO.

It certainly looks interesting, WO'N - but how the heck am I going to have time to use it as well as keep going here?

Well, mm - we were hoping that the injection of new blood into the board would help to strengthen us all
I've grown older, more cynical and more crabby whilst on this board and I was looking forward to you inspiring me with extra strength and a new vision of the world!

What I want to know is why the two? I mean, you'd think they would have covered it the first time! It'd be like having The NeverEnding Story II.

For the same reason there's an "n" in reinyartnation®!

"n" in reinyartnation®!

Thanks, Stretch.

Useless, unnecessary and wrong. I'll go with that.

Posted By: sjm Re: Everything - 12/04/02 06:50 PM
Why "2"?

Aksherly, they answer that on their homepage. Everything2 is, apparently, the second attempt at a freeform, thread (called "node" there) "encyclopaedia" type website. The site does tell one what happened to the first attmpt, called simply "everything", but I couldn't be bothered to LIU.

Yep. Kinda like the stubby forelimbs on a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Am I invisible? I just told y'all why it's called what it is, for cryin' out loud! I would steal an Harrumph, but it doesn't come close to expressing the depth of my grievance.

Posted By: WhitmanO'Neill Re: Everything - 12/04/02 07:37 PM
Somebody owes Anadage, Inc. a ®...but I don't see him around here anywhere. Is someone posting between us, Faldage?

Posted By: AnnaStrophic Re: Everything - 12/04/02 08:20 PM
SJM, I could be wrong (I know, this comes as a huge shock), but the question was asked before you supplied the answer. Otherwise I'd bump you to the top of the minced liver list. You know....

No, no, it wasn't your ramasseur I was harrumphing at. I answered his question without rancour. 'Twere dat Turnpikeist, whose T. Rex comment came after my reply to M. Fong.

Turnpikeist

>Turnpikeist: from Turnpikeism -- A compulsive/obsessive disorder peculiar to certain fishermen, where, upon catching a pickerel, Northern Pike, muskellunge, or other pikelike fish, they habitually turn the fish over several times before returning it to the water. Also see Turnpikeistic, Turnpikery.<

Yes, I'm afraid it's true. I, myself, have been known to turn a pike or pickerel over several times before returning the fish to the water....it's just that they have such, well, beautiful coloring...you just have to see it more than once, you know?...both sides.

I've looked at pike from all sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's pike illusions I recall
I really don't know pike at all

Given his colo(u)rful nature, perhaps shona should change his name to "Pikeonabike"

Posted By: dxb Re: all sides - 12/05/02 11:11 AM
Then he could go bicycle jousting.

Who's this Shirley and how did she get a pike?

Posted By: Faldage Re: all sides - 12/05/02 03:41 PM
Joust with pikes???

Posted By: dxb Re: all sides - 12/05/02 03:52 PM
Well...pikes, lances...size and shape aren't important, it's function that counts...just be a little longanimous to my linguistic licence.

Joust with pikes???

Yeahbut®, wouldn't that be a bit messy?...especially all those scales?

Posted By: Wordwind Re: all sides - 12/05/02 04:32 PM
And to think we were discussing cornobbled beings a year ago...everything that goes around, comes around.

Posted By: dxb Re: all sides - 12/05/02 04:34 PM
especially all those scales

Well, you could pitch a staff at each other if not a pike - something new and different - it would be a tonic solfa as I can see.

Posted By: AnnaStrophic Re: all sides - 12/05/02 04:39 PM
tonic solfa

*rimshot*

A messy site. Does it have an obvious purpose apart from acting as a repository for everyone's opinions?
