Fellow word lovers,

With Anu's gracious invitation, I'd like to let you know about my website, Quadrivial Quandary:

http://www.quadrivialquandary.com

Each day the site displays four words, including A.Word.A.Day. The challenge: write one illustrative sentence that uses all four words.

Come see how people have been using the wonderful AWAD words in creative sentences -- mortmain, acnestis, subfusc, epanorthosis, doggo, lentiginous... -- and submit your sentence with today's words!

! I tested a game last April called Literati. Five "hard" words are drawn, and the players have to write a story using as many of them as they can...in 30 seconds, iirc. It was great! Your challenge sounds similar, and fun also. Thanks.
In some searching I found there's a Scrabble variant on Yahoo Games called Literati, but there's also an offline party game called Literati Challenge which sounds like what you're referring to.

A few differences between the challenges: in QQ you're confined to one sentence, you have a day to write it, and you aim to illustrate the meanings of the words. In Literati Challenge (from what I gather) you invent a story in seconds and you might not know the meanings of the words -- you score points by bluffing. Sounds very fun -- thanks for pointing it out!
If you could quadruply the quantity of time a day has, it would be amusing to play this Quadrivial game.
Literati Challenge--yes, that's it! And it's 90 seconds, not 30. Thank you. It is GREAT fun. I didn't choose it to bring home, though: there's no one here who could play it with me.

Hmm--you've just sparked a memory for me...I think I'll run on over to W & F.
