hey! did the font and font size just change for anyone else? it just got bigger, and I didn't change anything....

I know how to adjust my own browser font size, and I tried that, but it doesn't go back to the size it used to be.

Mine too. It's probably just inflation.

Mine, too. And my bifocals appreciate it.

Mine, too--though I see as I'm typing that it's like it used to be.

EDIT--reading the above after posting, it's big. But again, smaller as I type.

Let me guess, you've all recently upgraded to IE 7. The earlier versions always did render fonts smaller than other browsers.

Well, I haven't. I just checked, since I've downloaded a couple of things lately--one of which asked me if I wanted IE7--but I still have 6. I had called my computer guys and was told most definitely do not get IE7 yet, so I didn't check the box, but I thought that somehow it might have downloaded without me realizing it. (My computer does all kinds of things that I don't find out about until later!)

... eta and I would use such an abomination on our Macs.

I didn't see the font increase when eta first pointed it out -- it took a couple more visits for it to kick in (Firefox). Go figger.

I have not yet upgraded to IE7, but the font just got bigger for me in the viewing, not the replying, today. I wasn't here yesterday. I also can no longer get here from my bookmark as of the weekend. I get to the Wordsmith homepage and there is no menu to select the talk board from. I have been getting here by clicking the link in an e-mail informing me that I have a new private message. Anyone else having this problem?

Okay, I just refreshed my bookmark and mas nada, but after clicking on A Word A Day on the homepage, the pull down menu was on that page.

Edit : Any of the links except Liststat have the pull down menu.

I suspect a CSS change from pt to px has caused this (in)explicable change in behavior.
If I was not so busy (or so lazy), an inspection of the "View Source" might reveal the changes.

The CSS file still has font sizes in pt. It might be a different font. The CSS file was modified yesterday in the early afternoon. I am now seeing the changes, too.

nice detective work, guys. so why would they be messing with the CSS file, when they can't even get the "Who's Online" page worked out?...

the top forums page seems normal; subsequent pages border on being annoyingly large-fonted.

large-fonted.

Interesting phrase. Use it often as a pickup line?

I wrote to Anu, and he wrote right back (thank you, sir!); and sure enough he did it on purpose. He had talked to an advisor about making the site easier for all to access, and making the font bigger was one of the Rx. Anu also hopes that getting used to it won't be too much of a problem.

ok. nice to know it was on purpose. I can get used to it, though I'm not crazy about it. it's easy enough for each user to change the font size his/herself; this just hits me the wrong size.

now, can he have the guy fix the "Who's Online" page?

>it's easy enough for each user to change the font size

in Firefox, (Ctrl -) & (Ctrl =) will toggle font size

as I work more with this, what bugs me is that it isn't consistent through all areas of the site. it's only a couple of things that have gotten bigger, so when I reduce my overall font size, some things get very small. either increase everything, or nothing.
