As what I can only assume to be atonement for bad karma collected since just before the Big Bang, I have been given the honour of posting first in the soon-to-be thread commemorating the one year anniversary. Do I do this as early as possible on the 14th, which will be the 13th for almost everybody else, or on the 15th? Answers, along with inspiration, or at least Calliope's phone number, will be greatly appreciated.

I think follow your time - 14th early morning. The whole world will follow you.

YES, Max & CapK - please post on the 14th - and as I recall, the 'decision' was to post as close to 9:00 as possible (for you Americans who don't use a 24-hour clock, that's 9:00AM). We will all then follow your lead!

Ali - how's the graphic coming?

Oh MAX - does your site at AWADabilia have the capacity to include SOUND??? If so, I'll be more than happy to sing something appropriate online!

And a question for the board - shouldn't we keep our posts short & sweet rather than try to outdo each other with long and involved missives??? Just a thought!

Ooooooh, this is getting good!

Care to set the example, then?

AnnaS>Care to set the example, then?

Well, AnnaS - I WAS talking about the Birthday posts!

I don't think I'm the ONLY one who has so much to say from time to time?! And, according to some others on the board, if you don't WANT to read them, you don't HAVE to read them!

Yes. You can upload any type of file at all, so an MP3 or a file in Real Media format would be fine for most, I would imagine.

Max,
Decision-by-committee is always dodgy (gee whiz, I really love that word ), but from what I can distill from all the suggestions, it looks like, yes, it befalls you (and I for one can't think of a better guy, time zones notwithstanding), to start the thread, on your March 14. I hope you will indeed rise to the occasion, else we might have 16 different threads all started at once.
After you have begun the -- how did shanks put it -- gout-ridden-geezer's toasts, then you might start a party thread, too. Seems that what was sort of decided, two threads: one for succinct elegies and the other for fun 'n' games.
Do you agree to undertake this mission?
PLEASE????

Was there a max dismay'd?
Not tho' the jester knew
Some one had blunder'd:
His not to make reply,
His not to reason why,
His but to do and die:

alea jacta est, morituri te salutant.

I'd just like to remind all y'all living on the western US coast and out there in the Pacific this side of the International Date Line that you have to wait your turn to post. It would be what, only about 2:00 in the afternoon (14:00) on the 13th in Hawaii when Max posts at 9 in NZ? Just make sure you hold your urges to post early. That wouldn't be fair, now would it?

I think that's going to bethe weirdest part of the whole exercise, posting into a void. I'll probably have to post around 08:00 NZ time, as I'm going out later that morning, so I will have to post, and then wait hours for any response, except perhaps from Capital Kiwi. Even the West Islanders will be posting around 4 or 5 hours after me if they wait until 09:00 their time. The idea of my poor pathetic posts exposed to such prolonged silent scruitny gives me the screaming heebie-jeebies!

When I can't spell "scrutiny"? I don't think so!

Don't worry, Max. I'll be waiting to see what you say before I do my post ...

At this point I haven't the foggiest notion of what I'm going to say. But I'll wait for the scruitny of others quite happily. If I can't have the last word, I'm not going to regret having the second!

Seems that Max and CK have created a new word for looking closely at things.

No, no, Max, she said, writing for a weekly newspaper, not editing for one. Always blame it on the editor, didntcha know that?

she said, with cold and trembling fingers. Just sent this:

Dearest of Anu's,

There will be a thread begun on March 14th, in Information and Announcements, that you should check out, Dear One.
It will be started by Max Quordlepleen.

Love,

Jackie

Someone get this brave woman some warm ointment and mittens to warm her wonderful, courageous hands!

Thanks, Jackie - I am sure we are ALL grateful.

Now, here's hoping he will actually take a look!

At least we know he took a look at Weeky Themes.

Ya know, not to downplay what we're doing or anything, but it seems to me that Anu kinda stole our thunder by mentioning the septennial in this week's theme. He might think we were copying his idea. 'Course, on the other hand, maybe that'll get more people to look at our thread.

Not if he looked at the threads here that have been discussing this in excruciating detail for the last fortnight or so.

We should do it in Miscellany.

What? The birthday thread? Certainly not, this is definitely a grand announcement which warrants being placed in the section at the top of the board.

I am a stranger so I have no idea what one is supposed to post on the AWAD anniversary. Please help! I am trying to graduate from being a stranger.

Whatever your muse gives you. Something that expresses your feelings about this Board on the occasion of its first anniversary, and, if you're feeling festive, something appropriate in the "party" thread. In short, whatever boils your crawfish.

Lessee, 24 hour clock, umm, subtract 12 hours... if the answer is non positive add them back, umm, 9 minus 12 is dumm de dum dum By George! She's right! nine o'clock is nine o'clock!
