In the words of the immortal Dr Spooner, professor of something-or-other at Oxford in the early part of last century to a no doubt rather stunned undergraduate:

"Sir, you have been caught fighting a liar in the quad and you have hissed all my mystery lectures. You will leave by the next town drain!"

A colleague of mine came up with a great expression the other day, albeit accidentally (and he was oblivious to his mistake!):

"He's got his snoff in the trout".

I have since discovered that "snoff" is a short candle end used for igniting a fuse.

I do believe, however, that this type of fishing has been outlawed in most places.
