Tsuwm's wwftd deserves a better appellation. MaxQ used it in a post a year and a half ago, but it was never defined. "Chrestomathic" teaching what is useful; devoted to the learning of useful matters.
Let us hope our schools are devoted to the inculcation and practice of it.

Agreed, Dr. Bill.

Over this side of the pond, Dr bill,I fear that the schools - and even the universities, increasingly - are devoted to teaching that which can be measured in such a way that the "outcomes of learning" (ugh!!) can be ranked in league tables for comparison puroses, so that funding may be doled out to those whose measurements are the greatest.
[/cynical rant!]
