I remembered the name of these beautifully-done eggs, first introduced to me by my college roommate, who is of Hungarian descent, and thought others might enjoy a look. And if anyone can tell me how to pronounce the word, I'd be grateful--she laughed unmercifully! I suppose it is a Ukrainian word?**

Jackie, my Dad speaks Hungarian (he had to, to speak with his grandparents), and I ran the word by him. Said it was Ukrainian.

God bless you. Need a hanky, sweetie? [running for cover, ducking flying eggs-e]

Here you go, jackie:

pysanky
PEH-SAN-KEH
The pronunciation of "py" in Pysanky is middle between "PIH" and "PEH". But closer to the western Ukraine, it is nearer to "PEH".

My Dad, familiar with the tradition being from Eastern European descent, pronounced it PIH-SAN-KEE.

And Connie...no, I don't want that kind of hanky, thank you.

Perhaps if he shouted very loudly, you could hear him... I suspect that you have a wonderful sense of humor, sir. If we can help you with your English, I think we will be glad to. For some questions, you might want to Send Private--I think most of us would be happy to help. And, thank you for your pronunciation help.
