COUNTRIES THAT BEGIN WITH 'K'; A CURIOSITY
Six countries have names that begin with the letter K, and each has a different vowel as the second letter: Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kiribati, Kosovo, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan.
That one begins with an N or an S. Or either that or a P or an R.
Yes, I'd just remembered that.
I think Kiribati is a Republic as well. Formerly known as the Gilbert islands.
What happened to Korea?
Oh, that's what you folks were talking about.
Republic of Kenya, Republic of Kazakhstan, etc.
Kiribati is pronounced Kiri-BAHSS, by the way.
On second thoughts, the emphasis should be on the first syllable: KIH-ruh-bahss.
Welcome, John.
Back during the Y2K scare (remember that?)
Kiribati was the first to see the sunrise on the
new millenia; at least that was their claim as they
have a huge expanse of ocean territory near the date line.
There were several claimants to that title. Tonga decided to shift the dateline prior to the event and New Zealands east coast of the north island decreed that mt Hikurangi would be the first due to its elevation.
