On the radio this morning the announcer said that "the quiz will be right next."

...as opposed to... left next? Wrong next?

right next

Seems to be the 4th adverbial meaning in the A-H entry (link). It's use in the book is right next to me seems uncontroversial. Think of it as a variant of It's coming right up. Next was the superlative form of nigh whose comparative form became near.

"the quiz will be right next." I thought I felt some earth tremors early this morning. Now I know what they were: Canada bulldozing its way to the southern United States.
