...the nasty candy/flavor that I know as licorice? A Brit-speaking friend seems to think it is spelled liquorice. Whichever, I thought this site about it was pretty interesting:
Glycyrrhiza glabra L.

I too would probably say likkerish, but would spell it liquorice. I'm really quite fond of the stuff. Perhaps the actual sweet tastes different in N. America as well as being spelt differently.
