I didn't realise that we're practically neighbours, zmjezhd. Although I don't need gills on my island.

In this Safari browser she's red all right!

She's red here too, in Firefox.
Posted By: zmjezhd Re: red-letter day! - 10/01/05 01:25 AM
She's red now, but weren't afore.
Posted By: Jackie Re: red-letter day! - 10/01/05 01:48 AM
I was going to say that no, I'm not red, but after reading all the above, I am now!

I got foo and bar (naughty testuser! ), but what's baz?
Posted By: sjmaxq Re: red-letter day! - 10/01/05 01:59 AM
Apropos of sweet fa, have you seen Wikipedia's front page today, Jackie?
Posted By: Jackie Re: red-letter day! - 10/01/05 02:21 AM
No, I hadn't, but cool! Thanks.
Posted By: sjmaxq Re: red-letter day! - 10/01/05 03:15 AM
De nichts, mijn amica. I thought we had Unicode here, but it turned out we don't.
Posted By: zmjezhd Re: red-letter day! - 10/01/05 03:44 PM
what's baz?

The third canonical metasyntactic variable (identifier). More infos:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foo
http://catb.org/~esr/jargon/html/M/metasyntactic-variable.html

I've always been partial to quux, but that's because I come from a LISP background.
Posted By: zmjezhd Re: red-letter day! - 10/01/05 03:51 PM
Ja, what gives? We want our Unicode ...
Posted By: Father Steve Re: red-letter day! - 10/01/05 05:13 PM
"oogle, foogle, boogle; zork, gork, bork."

God bless Lewis Carroll!

"The third canonical metasyntactic variable"

Oh yes--that was right on the tip of my tongue. (Yeah, right.)
'Sfar's I can tell, we're only allowed UBB...if that is at all related to your Unicode question.

Oh yes--is anyone able to get the "graemlins" (odd word!) and colors to work by clicking on them? Or is there something else we're supposed to be doing that I don't know about? 'Cause they sure don't work for me that way.
Posted By: zmjezhd Re: red-letter day! - 10/01/05 05:56 PM

Sorry to be such a pain, Jackie, but you asked what baz was, and as there is an agreed upon term for it, I gave it to you.

Feel not like the Lone Ranger, Jackie. I can't figure out how to make colours nor to make the little funny faces appear, either. Some wise one will know ...

Edit: Experiment.

Yes

I used the UBBCode

The buttons don't seem to work.

Hey, I think the UBB codes work for me; thanks, Faldage.
Posted By: Father Steve Re: red-letter day! - 10/02/05 01:09 AM
Oh, sure, UBB. Like everybody knows that.

UBB = Ubiquitin B (a protein, I think)
UBB = Ultimate Bulletin Board
UBB = Ultra-Broad-Band
UBB = United Bulgarian Bank
UBB = Universal Bulletin Board
UBB = Universidad del Bio-Bio
UBB = Universitatea Babes Bolyai (Romania)
UBB = Unsaturated Vitamin B
UBB = Usage-Based Billing

ubb threads

and yeah, I can't get any of the scripts to run, even with pop-ups off...

If the codes do work for you with the colours, they should also enable you to insert the graemlins. If not, type the phrase that appears when you hover the mouse over them, comme ci:
: confused : (sans spaces) gives

Faldage, old hoss, you were asking on another thread, for Plutarch's pseudonyms

I happened to stumble over a list compiled by of Troy a while ago - here they are:-

grapho
themgmt
wordminstral
plutarch
moss
tang
ROB
omega
diggrifier.

Hope this helps!

[/color:green](PS)
I seem to remember that "tang" is "gnat backwards - wasn't this also a name he used for a while?
Posted By: Jackie Re: red-letter day! - 10/02/05 05:27 PM
Thought I would duplicate here what I said over in I&A yesterday, since I got a notice today of yet another PM here:

YOO HOO, whoever you are: I still can't get to my PM's.

eta, your post reminded of something I'd meant to say yesterday and forgot: I'm used to seeing "Error on page" when I have my pop-up stopper on, but all these times I've tried to do things here, it has NOT been on...sigh.
Posted By: wsieber Re: red-letter day! - 10/03/05 05:28 AM
Hi Jackie,
When I looked up my PMs on the new board, I first got a message saying that I had stored too many PMs and should delete some before being able to receive new ones(!) I did delete a number of them (sigh), and the message did not recur. Maybe this will be of some help to you. I don't know if the ones I sent actually went through.
Posted By: Jackie DON'T DELETE YOUR PMs ! - 10/03/05 03:49 PM
Anu has in fact changed the limit to 10,000. I don't know what to tell you to do if you can't get in, as I can't, but it shouldn't be necessary for anyone to delete any.

That goes for me, too, S tuart - I keep intersting posts for up to three or four weeks - if I haven't revisited them in that time, then out they go (the exception is if they contain information like urls or e-mail addies)
