Freedom really is just another word for nothing left to lose, so I shall revel in my traditional freedom, and cast the first stone, aiming to hit number 5.

Egad! The above no longer makes much sense, does it now?

Oh, POO! I just realized taht I numbered the entries rather than using letters. And most people seemed in the past to have fun using the letters. Want me to change the post?

>Want me to change the post?

If it will mean a reversal in my traditional fortunes then, yes, please!

Hand me over an L of a big goblet of that wine!

I like J.

Posted By: Faldage Re: Somnae definitions - 11/18/04 04:15 PM
I really like O, if only for its abject refusal to be crammed into the armillary. Man! There's so many good ones that were crammed in. I'll go for the one that just skirts the edges and vote P.

>I like J.

Just give me I, then.

Posted By: Owlbow Re: Somnae definitions - 11/18/04 07:22 PM
I like N best TEd, but I have no idea,
so, gimme a P!

Posted By: belMarduk Re: Somnae definitions - 11/18/04 08:19 PM
Grrrr. You people frustrate me...I'm teetering between finding them all possible and finding them all improbable. I can't decide. I'll have to think on them some more.

Posted By: themilum Re: Somnae definitions - 11/18/04 09:04 PM
Belmar! Think as you wish but take note of definition
number (B) more than one sleeping woman.
Ever suspicious, I executed an anagram on the phrase
more than one sleeping woman
and got this chilling translettered result...

Another omen foretelling a sheepman!

The odds of this encryption being accidental are about a zillion to one.
But of course, Bel, its your life, you can live it like you want to, but as for me I'll play it safe and vote for the more less-ominous number (G.)

Gee wilikers!

I like both Alpha and Pomega. Meanwhile, N's provenance is pretty obvious. (!) That said, I'll have some of that F, please.

I wanna P too. May I please leave the room?

Posted By: belMarduk Re: ...Porridge Hot... - 11/19/04 04:25 AM
Somnae.

O.K., this is too complex, I’ll have to break them down by category.
A, B, C, G, H, J, M all have to do with sleep and seem to use the root “Somn” which reminds us of somnambulist so since everybody went that way, I’m thinking they’re all misleading inventions.

D. is out of the question because everybody knows the person who passes out first at an orgy is not a somnae it’s a guy.

F. I’m discounting because I have no idea what that sentence says.

I and K. are related to the bedroom and thus associated with the “sleeping” resemblance – close enough to make us think, that hmmm, maybe this is right - so I’m thinking they’re also inventions.

N. Well, N is just a groaner, so off that one goes.

O. is just too long, somebody is trying too hard to convince us, and also a groaner – so out it goes.

So we’re left with ELP – Ooo, what a coincidence…Emmerson, Lake and Palmer.

E. those who have left a school, college or university after failing to complete their studies there.
L. Specialists involved in the study of wine. Connoisseurs of specific wine regions.
P. Female victims of vampirism, caught between the worlds of the living and living dead. First mentioned in the German cult film Loranthaceae and Viscaceae, 1987.

O.k. that’s it, I’m choosing L because I’m thinking there wouldn’t be such a high-falutin name for flunkies who failed college or university, and there’s too many vowels on the Loranthaceae and Viscaceae – you can’t even pronounce that in German.

----------------------------------------------------

And yes, wofa sweetie, you may leave the room.

Though Palmer was my favorite. Never mind, never mind...I'm going. Sheesh.

I like bel's analytical approach, but I don't think the conclusion can be right. So, I'd go for oh, K.'Kay?

I shall not choose my own offering, but instead throw a fat-erasered pencil at the keyboard and choose: s

No, let me try again: 8

No – a little to the left: ty

Hey, nice shootin', Tex! But how ‘bout a(n): h

Woohoo! ‘H’ it is!

Posted By: musick Re: Somnae definitions - 11/24/04 09:37 PM
If you're correct, Dgeigh, belMarduk will have to revalue the whole complexity issue.

O. is just too long, somebody is trying too hard to convince us, and also a groaner – so out it goes.

You know me soooooo well, Bel.
