Long, long time ago, I can still remember... limit three per post... no shoving... keep one arm's distance apart... single file...

********

Does anyone remember this game? What is the meaning of life? Are we there, yet?

Huh?
What is the man talking about?
Do you think he has an unsavory, ulterior motive?

Posted By: Buffalo Shrdlu Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/12/04 07:31 PM
does that count as three, Zed?

Posted By: Zed Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/12/04 07:34 PM
Would you consider an instinctive, interrogative exclaimation to be a legitimate question?

Posted By: musick Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/12/04 08:13 PM
Aren't instinctives, interrogatives and exclaimations three different things?

Posted By: amnow Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/12/04 11:33 PM
No idea. Howsomever, what's 'exclaimations'? Wid a I?

Does the Ellanoyan know the rules? Who wants to splain her? Should the thread starter do it?

Posted By: musick Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/13/04 01:39 PM
Is this thing on? (thud, thud....squeeeeeeak)

Posted By: AnnaStrophic Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/13/04 01:46 PM
Where am I? What's going on here?

Posted By: musick Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/13/04 02:03 PM
Were you dreaming? Can't you see?

Posted By: wofahulicodoc Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/13/04 02:15 PM
Yes, but it's easy to turn any declarative sentence into a question, n'est-ce pas? Well, isn't it?

Posted By: tsuwm Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/13/04 02:21 PM
what about a rhetorical question then?!

Posted By: musick Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/13/04 02:43 PM
Why?

Posted By: Buffalo Shrdlu Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/13/04 02:51 PM
Why not?

Posted By: musick Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/13/04 02:56 PM
Well, that covers both of them, doesn't it?

Posted By: tsuwm Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/13/04 03:37 PM
>>what about a rhetorical question then?!

>Why?

how was it that it wasn't perfectly clear that my question required no question?!!?

Posted By: Buffalo Shrdlu Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/13/04 04:08 PM
what? Somebody asked a question?

Posted By: musick Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/13/04 04:16 PM
how was it that it wasn't perfectly clear that my question required no question?!!?

Doesn't this bring us back to (do'h) "What is the meaning of life?

If an interrobang is only 1/2 of a question, does this "?!!?" mean there's a whole question in there... somewhere?

Posted By: Jomama Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/13/04 05:26 PM
I'm HERE so all of you must be there--but here is there to you-all, right?

Has that word "interrobang" been around for a while?
Does the punctuation work backwards!?

Posted By: musick Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/14/04 06:23 PM
Whenfor is it that there becomes here and now becomes then?

Posted By: wofahulicodoc a REAL question - 07/14/04 06:51 PM
Have we done "Why a mouse when it spins" yet? And can anyone please tell me where it comes from?

In all seriousness?

Posted By: tsuwm Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/14/04 06:55 PM

perhaps these will suffice?!

http://www.worldwidewords.org/weirdwords/ww-int1.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interrobang

since ?! is a conventional substitution for the real deal, I don't think they work as well backwards - I've always used that to represent shocked incredulity, as in: I can't believe you would do that!?
as pointed out in the 2nd link above, "interro-bang" is itself suggestive of an order.

Posted By: musick Re: a REAL question - 07/14/04 07:11 PM
In all seriousness?

You're stretching it there, aren't you?

Posted By: wofahulicodoc Re: a REAL question - 07/14/04 09:42 PM
You don't think it can be a real question, eh? Well, do you think it's worth starting its own thread, then?

Posted By: musick Re: a REAL question - 07/14/04 10:29 PM
Would you believe there can't be 'all seriousness'?

Posted By: Jomama Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/16/04 05:01 AM
Thanks, tswum, I enjoyed those links muchly.
Your thoughts on the reversed marks (!?) sound right.
And to carry it a step farther, that might be a
bang-interro, which suggests accidental punctuation?!!?

Posted By: musick Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/16/04 03:50 PM
Could you enjoy those links any more?
What does tsuwm's thoughts on the "other order" sound like?
To be or to not be?

Posted By: Jomama Re: Just the questions, Ma'am - 07/17/04 04:24 AM
Ah, musick, couldn't we always savor the good things a bit more?
And do you think I really can hear those thoughts?
And for that one, is it "tswum or no-seeum"?

Is he the plaintiff?
Was he the swimmer?

Were the covers down around the ankles? Did I miss something? Where have I been? Hi, y'all. Just peeking out of my box.

was it a nice box?
