PM me your definitions for widdiful within the next sennight..

Posted By: tsuwm Re: compleat hogwash®, round 2 - 07/25/03 12:49 AM
at the start of round 1, max wrote Well, these rules are certainly clear. Too bad that they are cruelly discriminatory against those of us without the wit to create daffynitions. I used to enjoy voting, knowing two things for sure: 1) That I would get it wrong, and C) That in so doing, I would be helping somebody out. Now, if I vote, it's just 1), and that's no fun.

democrat that I am (from time to time), let's put it to a vote..

[ ]have all votes count equally
[ ]leave it as it is
[ ]I really don't give a tinker's dam

I vote a for the rules. Otherwise you could get either an awful lot of definitions or not many votes.

Well, I have nothing against a plethora of definitions, and have come to the conclusion that I shall vote C

I'll join my bro ~ C's the day, no carping

Ouch - it appears we have a TEd clone in our midst.

I'll take "B"...and I didn't know that tinkers built dams.

Posted By: tsuwm Re: compleat hogwash®, round 2 - 07/25/03 05:25 AM
..I didn't know that tinkers built dams.

oh, I was hoping somewo'n would comment on that!
the word detective: [A] second theory maintains that the phrase should be "tinker's dam," not "damn." A tinker's "dam," goes this theory, was a small piece of dough, clay or paper used to block the hole in a pot while solder was applied. When the job was done, the "dam" was discarded, and thus "tinker's dam" came to mean something utterly inconsequential.

(gee, I wo'nder if this is a yart...

more than that; a self-yart!)

...as long as it's a Democracy, I'll vote for 'D' as well.

[d] for me, three. If you're gonna go to the effort of coming up with a daffynition (and thereby keeping the game going), you should be rewarded an extra point for getting the right answer. This keeps everyone involved, but offers a little extra incentive to participate.

I'll take A in the generic, meaning all votes should count whether or not the voter has submitted a definition. I also feel rather strongly that an additional point is appropriate for person or persons identifying the correct definition. (Does that mean I just voted for the status quo ante?)

And if we need extra incentive to have people contribute daffynition®s, then the game has just died a natural death and deserves a quiet interment anyway. (Although I suspect even in that case...maybe we'd find after a little while that the game should be renamed "Phoenix" ?)

well, I can see that we're anything you like except unanimous on this issue. so here's my last best proposal: everyone's vote counts, but player's votes get double-weighted

on a more positive note, I've got eight def'ns for widdiful so far, including entries from max, Jackie and musick!

All right already, I'll get on the proverbial s(ch)tick.

Done, chief. Apologies for the delay.
