Some of the posts appear to be true associations, others are clever and obviously thought-out; many have explanations in [ white ]. I think the thought-out posts are more interesting, since we're not in a shrink's office. What do y'all think the point of this game is?

BTW, I started a new thread rather than interrupt the flow. [considerate e]

well, I must admit that I sometimes take the best word out of the first two or three that come into my mind... occasionally hoping to influence the following word. I think this game has led to a bit of insight into the people playing, more so than I would get from "true" WA... though maybe we need to start a strict WA topic.

nah.

What do y'all think the point of this game is?

To quote sheepishlion:

...put down the first word that comes into their mind on seeing that word, and so on.

Knowing this group, I'm hoping we'll come up with some interesting words.

--------

I'd say the rules and the point are *virtually the same thing here.

If one was looking at another's body language/reaction one might have more point.

for me,the first thing that comes to mind on seeing many of the words is, "there's no way that this is the first word that came to mind." :}

And the flow just keeps on coming. Lemme know when it stops and it's worthwhile looking in here again.

poisonally, I posted here 'cause I can't get the other thread to open (it's a weird thing I get on this computer - for example, neither can I currently open the fall/autumn thread, yet could a day or so back)

curmudgeons

All I'm saying is I had no interest in the Word Assoc thread. OK, so I stayed out of it and let y'all for whom it was of interest have y'all's fun. Then the lovely AnnaS asks an interesting question about it; there's some feeble attempt at answering her and then the thread flips back into the Word Assoc thread mode. I was interested in the theoretical aspects the lovely A raised but now I have to wade through all the WA to see if it ever will be answered. That's all I'm saying. Harrumph®!

Well, since I've nothing better to do, I will throw my lot in with the Fool on this one. This thread has been ruthlessly hijacked and it's an egregious example of ill-mannered egotism. Everyone who has contributed to this thread wandering off the intended theme should submit a written apology to Faldannastrophage, and a blank cheque to me.

'twas a conceptual pun, or a puny concept, one. The cheque's in the post (and the post's in Czech). I'll go now.

just what does that elephant thing mean anyway?

Posted By: sjmaxq Re: wha? - 07/22/03 03:37 AM
>just what does that elephant thing mean anyway?

It was in response to Mav's czech pun, and was stolen from Douglas Adams.
He glanced up apprehensively, and in response to a sudden thought quickly started to rummage through the large plastic shopping bag, which he now discovered had a hole in the bottom.
It had large characters printed on the side which read (to anyone who could decipher the Centaurian alphabet) Duty free Mega-Market, Port Brasta, Alpha Centauri. Be Like the Twenty-Second Elephant with Heated Value in Space - Bark!

ah. thank you. I remember a few of the mainstream HHG references, 42..babelfish..etc., but that one escaped me.

it may be a good summer to reread those.
