For all you newbies, strangers and otherwise tagged as "with many questions", the maximum setable default value of "show X many posts at a time" is 100, and this coupled with others' slow connection speed we do our best to limit threads at 100... whenever possible... for the good of humanity... not that we are all human here, but.

Posted By: Tross Re: double dactyls - once again have a go - 05/31/03 07:18 PM
oops... sorry musick... should I delete that 100th one in the previous thread?

Posted By: Tross Re: double dactyls - once again have a go - 05/31/03 07:29 PM
Guess I better come up with a good one so that this second thread will seem justified... hmmm...

Guess what book I'm re-reading...

Merrydol-Derrydol
Tom Bombadillo was
Left out of Lord of Rings
Some say, "That's wrong!"
Jackson had found it was
Ultra-bewildering
Couldn't fit Tom in film
Four hours long.

Derrydol-Merrydol
Tolkien's Lord of the Rings
made into movie, fans
are not amused.
Where was Tom Bombadil?
Incomprehensibly
Left out of film version
Fans feel abused.

My stream of consciousness -----

Looked through *tical words at OneLook.com. Saw antiscorbutical. It had right stresses for a DD, what does it mean? Curing or preventing scurvy. That makes me think of oranges. Pirates and sailors ate them to keep away scurvy. Hey... wasn't there a big bruhaha a while back when Minute Maid got accused of promoting homosexuality with that Popeye and Bluto orange juice commercial???? Hmmm...

Plutoey-Blutoey
Popeye the Sailor Man
Ate lots of spinach, from
which he grew strong.

But now it's orange juice
Antiscrorbutical
Minute Maid claims that the
Gay theme is wrong.

(How interesting... when I did a spell check on this, the computer gave me the suggestion of Honda to use instead of homosexuality...)

RE:when I did a spell check on this, the computer gave me the suggestion of Honda to use instead of homosexuality...)

oh, was this your first meeting with Ænegma? she is rather interesting.. excellent speller (unlike me) but a very limited vocabulary- you'd think she would have learned a few words by now, but she hasn't. We love'r all the same...
(when Ænegma can't find a word, she suggest the closest word in her puny list...usually it has one or two of the first letter in common..)

PS- if you are interested in learning how to add Æ or any of the © features, send some one a PM.. Faldage is a master, (i cheat and just use charmap, he programs the code in!)

I ain't saying nothin...

Æ

dumb newbie(I'm a newbie!)question alert...

How do you make that AE look like up there in blue? Other than cutting and pasting as I did for that quote deal-y...

If you're using Windows, hold down the "Alt" key, and pres 0198 on the numeric keypad to get Æ. I use a much improved replacement for Windows feeble charmap to get those symbols easily. It's called mapochar, and is both small and free. If you want to try it it, it's available here:http://maxqnz.com/uploads/mapochar.zip

Posted By: Faldage Re: double dactyls - once again have a go - 06/02/03 09:51 PM
Æ

On Macs it's Option-' for the lower case æ and Option-" for upper case Æ.

On PCs it's ALT-0198 for Æ and ALT-0230 for lower case æ. The numbers have to be entered on the keypad on the right and not on the typewriter row across the top.

You can also do Æ and æ for Æ and æ respectively. These work on either type machine.

Thanks F - obviously the "m" in my handle stands for mantle.

Posted By: Tross Re: double dactyls - once again have a go - 06/03/03 12:14 AM
Æ well lookie there Æ <-- and there!
thank you so much!
But now that I have this talent, I find there is really not much call for it... Maybe we can do a thread about words with this -->Æ in them...

the "m" in my handle stands for mantle.

A) This wasn't me mantling you it was you pipping me.

2) You only covered PCs, I got PCs and Macs both.

>) You only covered PCs, I got PCs and Macs both.

Aks shirley, I din't cover even PC's (x86 architecture), only Windows. I still haven't learned the codes for the special symbols in Linux, and must use a charmap type utility when I want to insert one if I'm in Linux.

codes for the special symbols in Linux

And I thought anyone using Linux would speak hex like a native!?

I've got Tolkien on the brain...

Balladon-Galadhon

Elf Queen with beauty so
Ethereal,
She passed the test and now
Uncompromisingly
Will diminish and stay
Galadriel.
