Subject: Post

This game was played on another forum I used to frequent, so I thought I would try it here. (if it has already been done, please just let me fade away quietly :)

The point is to announce arrivals to the Ball of your choice. One combination is to announce a Mr and Mrs and then their offspring......the first name of the offspring combined with the family name, is losely suggestive of something pertaining to that Ball. Like so:

Announcing arrivals to the Musicians Ball:

They had a rocky start, but are finally here: Mr and Mrs Ling Stones and their errant son Ro Ling Stones.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Or, the guests could just be a couple and the shortened version of their names is indicative of the Ball theme, like so:
A warm welcome please, to Theodore and Monica Keys.....otherwise known as The & Mon Keys.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another idea for a Ball is the Food and Beverage Ball:

Announcing from France, the ever tasteful Monsieur et Madame Tay, and their daughter, Pat Tay.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, does it make sense? Does it sound like fun? I will start us off with a continuation of the Food and Beverage Ball. (feel FREE to change the Ball at anytime)
Please check the guest list for Mr. Salsa and his offspring: Chip S, Ann Salsa.
"Mr. Basil Isk and Ms. Medusa," he deadpanned.
I suppose to be Utterly Correct that should be "Ms. Medusa and Mr Basil Isk," shouldn't it...
Posted By: of troy Re: another combo - 03/09/03 12:58 AM
or off on a tangent... some one i know, (and her spouse) has a vanity (licence) plate, Alka and other other one , Bromo...
they make sense when you know their last name is Selter...
(alka seltser and bromo seltsers are brand names for over the counter anti acids)
If it were a Brawl, instead of a Ball, among the guests might be Mr. and Mrs. Head, and son Dick.
Posted By: RubyRed Re: Back to the Musicians' Ball - 03/09/03 02:14 AM
Oh, that is too funny, wwh.......probably more so to me, because there happens to be a fellow in this town whose last name is Head, and although his first name is not that nickname for Richard, he is indeed a d**khead.
An invitation was sent to a group of the most famous scientists in history, requesting their attendance at the Scientist's Ball. Their responses were recorded and are
set forth below:
"Replying To An Invitation To A Scientists' Ball"
Pierre and Marie Curie were radiating enthusiasm.
Einstein thought it would be relatively easy to attend.
Volta was electrified, and Archimedes was buoyant at the thought.
Ampere was worried he wasn't up to current research.
Ohm resisted the idea at first.
Boyle said he was under too much pressure.
Edison thought it would be an illuminating experience.
Watt reckoned it would be a good way to let off steam.
Stephenson thought the whole idea was loco.
Wilbur Wright accepted, provided he and Orville could get a flight.
Dr Jekyll declined -- he hadn't been feeling himself lately.
Morse's reply: "I'll be there on the dot. Can't stop now – must dash."
Heisenberg was uncertain if he could make it.
Hertz said he planned in the future to attend with greater frequency.
Henry begged off due to a low capacity for alcohol.
Audubon said he'd have to wing it.
Hawking said he'd try to string enough time together to make a space in his schedule.
Darwin said he'd have to see what evolved.
Schrodinger had to take his cat to the vet, or did he?
Mendel said he'd put some things together and see what came out.
Descartes said he'd think about it.
Newton was moved to attend.
Pavlov was drooling at the thought.
Gauss was asked to attend because of his magnetic personality.
Mr and Mrs Khu Shan and Percy...their daughter...is in mourning, which suits her!!!
Okay, I'll bite. I presume the daughter's name was Electra?
But many in the family went to medical school - P.D. Atri, and Jerry Atri, and the granddaddy of them all, Fizzy.
Posted By: tsuwm Re: back-to-back ball - 03/12/03 12:15 AM
just to obviousize:
Percy Khu Shan
Electra Khu Shan
well, I must be pronouncin' it wrong, 'cuz all I gets is Sofa Khu Shan...
Posted By: wofahulicodoc Shan-na-na - 03/12/03 01:26 AM
Ah, yes. I was thinking of not the Khu Shan family but the Shan family. Fizzy was the grandfather, and his youngest child was P.D. Atri, and Jerry was the old one.
Not the same family at all. Though they also had an Electra. She preferred trade school to medical school.
Posted By: Buffalo Shrdlu Re: Shan-na-na - 03/12/03 01:33 AM
ah, I thought old PD was the 10th in his family. you know, P.D. Atri X...
Posted By: Jackie Re: back to the Medicine Ball - 03/12/03 01:37 AM
I presume the daughter's name was Electra?
Yes; she was very becoming.
One of the Shans went abroad and ended up marrying an Irish gel who insisted on hyphenating the 2 last names, so their daughter was Suff O'Kay-Shan.
And I CANNOT believe I forgot to mention this TRUE story!
I have met IN PERSON (read: not a made up story) a young girl whose last name was Lear. Her parents named her Crystal Shanda. How so very.....clever.....for a STRIPPER maybe! But not for your child's name!
Posted By: TEd Remington Crystal Shanda Lear - 03/15/03 02:34 PM
William Lear, who invetned a bunch of stuff including car stereos and Lear Jets, if I remember correctly, named his duaghter Shanda. I did not believe it until I read it in his obituary some years ago in the Washington Post.
Ted -- whose daddy named him Theophilus because "That's the awfulest looking baby I ever saw in my life"
Posted By: Coffeebean Re: Strange but True - 03/16/03 10:00 PM
There was a girl in grade school named Crystal Waters.
I wonder if she married Johnny Creek?
Posted By: Coffeebean Re: Back to the Musicians' Ball - 03/16/03 10:08 PM
Moving quickly into the Musicians' Ball are Mr & Mrs Molto Mosso and their young son, Piu. Daughter Meno Mosso will be arriving shortly, unaccompanied.
Posted By: RubyRed Re: Strange but True - 03/16/03 10:42 PM
Oh, now see, I like Crystal Waters. I don't know why I "approve" of that for a child's name, but do not approve of Crystal Shanda Lear. I guess because Crystal Waters sounds so "clean"!
Something for the young people, a rave, eagerly attended by the Beats siblings: Rupert, Etta and Viv.
A 'rave' is defined as a gathering of 100 people, at which amplified music ('wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats'[!) is played grr, arrgh, petty criminal injustice act ( rant stifled)
