INCUNABULUM,
Daffynitions

a) A gland in the brain that secretes an enzyme that promotes long-term memory retention, so called from its resemblance to a rabbit's head with two long protrusions resembling the ears.

b) an avatar

c) From L. cunae 'cradle' and bulum, 'instrument'. A classical orchestra formed of child prodigies.

d) a mechanical device in a clockwork that maintains the swinging of the pendulum

e) A single character in ancient Sumerian, Akkadian, Assyrian, Babylonian, or Persian writing.

f) A book printed during the earliest period of typography (i.e., from the 1450s to 1501).

g) A shallow depression in shoreline rock that has been eroded away by wind and wave action.

All y'all have 'nother week to get your votes in. (i.e., by 12 noon US EST next Sunday, Dec 4th

ANYONE can vote, whether you have entered a daffynition or not. Best to vote by PM, please - all names revealed after the final count)

Points awarded, as usual, at the whim of the Hogmaster - bribes in cash only, please.

from a disinterested bysitter:

>Best to vote by PM..

this is very much a departure from the norm.. your reasoning?!

(we always thought inline/online voting added to the fun - as long as it didn't get into overly critical analysis. again, some moderation (also by the moderator) may be required.)

yeah, I think we should just throw down the letter, but I'll wait until the master decides.

OK - I shall be guided by those more versed in the mores of this game - open voting on this thrread, please!

Thanks very much for your disinterested advise. Quite right.

I have difficulties making a choice between the probablies and the funnies. (time..time)

Well, time you do have, in limited quantity, Bran - until next Sunday at 12 noon Eastern Standard Time (which is 5 pm for me!) smile

I like D for plausibility.

But the deep recesses of my brain (such as they are) say the real answer is F. Early printed works. VERY early.

I vote for F. Honorable mention for D.

(Recall one and all that public analysis of choices is like as not designed as a bluff, to conceal and/or to mislead...)

It's the avatar of a component of a mechanical apparatus, (designed by child prodigies), that measures, among other things, the dimensions of rabbit brains, the depth of shoreline depressions and the proportions of the typographical characters that are used to replicate ancient documents from the Fertile Crescent. I can’t remember which just now. Too much turkey has further muddled my thinking.

Honorable mention for Owlbow.

*Some explanation due; later.

Un my head the word cuneiform which stands at the cradle of our writing and printing and cuna 'cradle' are doing an little dance. Yeh, of course I know I should follow the crowd, but... I just hate to do so: B

Oh ....YES Olwbow, very well said!

And I'd like to quote the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and say...

I've got a bad disease
But from my brain is where I bleed.
Insanity it seems
Has got me by my soul to squeeze.

So for me, my vote goes to A if for no other reason than insanity!

I like your daffynition, Owlbow - it is almost as near to correct as all of the others! Shame it missed the deadline.

If you do this at dinner, are you a MEDIATOR? Or just going on vacation in the South of France ?
Posted By: Jackie Re: DAFFYNITIONS gone wild - 12/01/11 03:45 AM
No, then he'd be a Midiator. Or a meteor. Or a matador. Or something. [channeling Branshea e]

Does this hurt? I've never been channeled before by my knowing shocked . Does mediarating include channel duties?

From BranShea's Hague homestead we heard her voice chime,
So, Rhuby broke silence with, "Yet there is time!"
