I'm abstaining because my definition was too close either to the real thing or another definition or both (not sure which).

How do you know? Did you get red-carded?
Posted By: The Pook Re: hogwash® round 90 - stylite - 04/09/08 06:40 AM
No, but I thought that was the simplest way to go, rather than submitting another definition.

This is a bit of a punishment for being good it seems to me.
Maybe we should hold a meeting about the 4th rule.
(I mean, come on the Pook, you sure make good ones by the dozen)

1. I was asked if I wanted to resubmit, but chose not to - it's not the fault of the rules or the hogmaster. I just felt that I probably know the meaning or can work it out so it wouldn't be fair if I play this one.
2. I beg to differ Branshea - the sum total of my definitions so far is... ah, let's see, that would be... (counts on fingers)...exactly one! \:D

I will not have that problem for sure.

before you do, please re-read, and consider, rule 5.
these two rules evolved from playing the game.

we aren't all sitting around an actual table here.

I wasn't really serious about this, -ron o rule. (I had in mind a meeting in Iceland, an old Allthing.) \:\) But I did take a look at the fifth rule. Sabotage? Wow! (wasn't the fifth rule a line in a movie with Arnold Schwarznegger and Danny de Vito?) Or was it the third rule? In the lame fun movie "Twins"?

Wait, you forgot the third rule in a crisis situation.

- The third rule?
- Third rule?

Yeah, third rule.

- The third rule.
- What's the third rule?

Duck!

The obvious way to handle rule 4 submissions is for the hogmaster merely to say that the proffered definition was too close to one already submitted, without saying whether it is the correct definition or one of the submitted false definitions.

Which is exactly what happened - I'm not complaining about the process. I'm happy to sit this one out.

I was more answering BranShea's comment that it seemed like excessive punishment for getting too close to the real thing.

I think there is quite some distance between 'a bit of a' and 'excessive'.
