A woman; without her, man is lost.

b.) n. Biol. (cellular) material similar to chromatin, most often found in mitochondria.

c.) NOUN: Logic A syllogism in which one of the premises or the conclusion is not stated explicitly.
d.) a cultural fashion which has gone extinct

e.) a mood-altering phrase

f.) Christian theology the cultural basis for Christian love.

g.) A request to be infused with herbs.

h.) (noun): Any idea or narrative present in a person's mind prior to birth. Synonym of archetype.
i.) defective wing casing, particularly in chirping insects such as crickets

j.) one of a collection of poetic devices intended to evoke a visceral reaction from the reader.

k.) what the bound and gagged prisoner says to his/her rescuer

l.) The stem of an individual floret in the center of a yellow composite.

The hogmistress, after some thought, deigns to give the entrants' names: AnnaStrophic, Aramis, BranShea, consuelo, Elizabeth Creith, Faldage, olly, R. Eastcourt, shanks, themilum, tsuwm, wofahulicodoc, and a dictionary. The hogmistress did not enter this one--she already has enough to think about at the moment.

So--cast your-all's votes by the end of the day on the 29th. The end of MY* day, that is! Midnight for me, EST, equals 5 a.m. on the 30th., GMT.

*She said, taking tsuwm's statement that hogmistresses/-masters can set their own rules!

I vote C.

I like h.

L for me!

K made me laugh.
Posted By: Aramis Re: Enthymeme, voting - 11/21/07 09:15 PM
Jackie's illeist fancies D.
Posted By: themilum Re: Enthymeme, voting - 11/21/07 10:57 PM

I am not out of town or in jail. I am withholding my vote until later because I don't want anyone to copy mine.

I'm going to copy Aramis' vote, d, before it goes out of style.
Posted By: Jackie Re: Enthymeme, voting - 11/22/07 12:27 AM
Alex! Darn, where have you been? I really wanted a def. from you! Thanks for voting, though!

FTR: I thought this was an excellent bunch of definitions, and very difficult to pick out the right one.
Posted By: Faldage Re: Enthymeme, voting - 11/22/07 01:48 PM
I like C, too, but I'm gonna vote for J 'cause it like it better.
Posted By: consuelo Re: Enthymeme, voting - 11/22/07 03:33 PM
Emmm , what was I going to say? I forget...[walking away, shaking my head-e]
Posted By: wofahulicodoc Re: Enthymeme, voting - 11/22/07 07:15 PM
Isn't J the same as E, which (sadly) should eliminate them both...
Posted By: BranShea Re: Enthymeme, voting - 11/22/07 10:10 PM
There is a difference. e.) is perfectly understandable for amateurs ( m e ) and j.) is for professionals.

To avoid misunderstanding I 'll make my choice now:
No woman or man is ever lost as long as their souls aren't lost; so I'll turn to the faith.

This word is known to temporalists as thyme-boarding; I vote for g.
Posted By: themilum Re: Enthymeme, voting - 11/23/07 12:32 AM
Ok, Eastcourt, who told you the answer?
You didn't look it up did you?
Oh well, all the important people have answered anyway so I say... G

Didn't have to look it up. Consuelo told me........over and over and over.............

I go for H - sounds like L. Ron H.

Don't feel put upon, Eastcourt. Misses Consuelo has mental lapses when she forgets that she is an obligatory dues paying member in moderately good standing of this illustrious board.

Ohhhh, Okay then. I feel better. I always try to be as
obliging as possible. I see now that her response in this thread is an indication of a real malady as opposed to a cute li'l post.
I'll try to be more sensitive.

Nice try and an awesome result R.E., but that bridge color and setting can't be mistaken for any other bridge.

Are we living in a voter's void ?

Yeah, must be an off-year election. Can my horses, dogs and cats vote too? I have a raft of dead relatives who would like to chime in.
I mean, here's ones chance to be funny, punny, smarmy or smart-alecky and not have to worry about the result and how it affects your property taxes.

Does anyone have dibs on the next Hogmaster Administration? I have a good word that I'd like to offer up.

Anwyay, Jackie, work and fatherhood have made me an infrequent visitor to these parts. perhaps with the holiday season I will be around more often.
Posted By: Jackie Re: Enthymeme, voting - 11/28/07 04:33 AM
One more full day to vote, you-all. Though it will be more like two, as I have commitments for the morning and the afternoon of the 29th.
Posted By: tsuwm Re: Enthymeme, voting - 11/28/07 04:42 AM
all right, I had my little joke in copying A's vote.

I really want to vote for H; but if that turns out to be the actual def'n, I really want to give my vote to the person who crafted C.

I was waiting to see how themilum voted so I could copy him but he got it wrong, methinks. I'll take "C" please.
Posted By: shanks Re: Enthymeme, voting - 11/28/07 11:11 AM
Like Tsuwm, and some others, I will go for the C word. [deadpan-e]

Though G and K are sooo tempting. Words should exist for those. We need bigger dictionaries...
Posted By: tsuwm Re: Enthymeme, voting - 11/28/07 03:02 PM
>We need bigger dictionaries...

ˇyes! as OED has proved with their paltry 20-vol. effort.

I'll take A. It's the Canadian vote, eh?
