I had a banner ad today that made me wonder what my ten year younger self would have thought it referred to. So everybody put your heads back into the early '90s:

*tossing Faldage a couple-three hyphens*

Yeah! Car phones were around in the 90s, sure, but.

labor strike by baseball players results in the premature termination of the season, and the cancellation of the World Series for the first time since 1904.

Thanks for the hyphens, lovely AnnaS. I had used my stock up in this post in wordorigins:

And temptation rears its ugly head...

A hands free car - very Jetsonian. But where does the cellular part fit in??

I shocked a teen the other day by saying that I went to school before cell phones, before e-mail and before the PC. (personal computer or politically correct, take your choice.) Amazing what we have learned to take for granted in so short a time.

But where does the cellular part fit in??

It must be an electric car! (WOW! Doesn't that *sound futuristic? e.g.)

For the young, "history" means "stuff that happened before my sophomore year."

must be an electric car!

And it's a kit! So simple even an adult can build one.

<<it must be electric>>

I'd have thought 'monastic.'

The Bailey Electric Car was still on the road when I was a little girl. (early 1930s) Two elderly ladies in our neighborhood drove one. It was similar to the first illustration in this link :
http://www.didik.com/ev_hist.htm
It was totally silent and the ride was smooth as glass.
The Bailey Company, just down the pike in Seabrook, New Hampshire - right here on the seacoast, made the electric cars. They are still in business but make other stuff now.
Who was it said "Nothing new under the sun?"
