While on a trip last week, the women accused several of the men of being "in cahoots with" one another ... in a most pejorative sense, I think. What is this "cahoot" in which we were accused of being?

Ooooo, F.S., what were you guys up to? When men are in cahoots, you know they are up to some mischief.

Father Steve, you openly admit this? I am shocked--shocked, I tell you!

I concede nothing about the nefarity of our schemes, but it did have something to do with slipping off to see a Mariners game while the women were left to the much more important task of shopping.

And what exactly were these sailors playing? This surely would have some bearing on the nefariousness or otherwise of your watching them.

slipping off to see a Mariners game

Baseball, m'dear. Major league baseball, 'tho the way the Mariners have been playing it at the beginning of this season, you might not recognize it as such.
