....or insofar? One word or three?
jj
I've many times seen it as "insofar as", and just now
got dozens of hits when I searched for it.
Hey, johnjohn! Long time no see. Howya been?
I've only ever seen it as Dr. Bill said.
>>>Hey, johnjohn! Long time no see. Howya been? I've only ever seen it as Dr. Bill said.Well, unless you count those jokes that finish with, "he had it in so far that...."
try and find concensus on this one;
'in so far as' or 'in-so-far as' - 527kg
'insofar as' - 347kg
but,
http://www.bartleby.com/68/88/3188.html says the latter is conventional.
Over this side of the pond, I believe that "insofar" is more usual. Having said that, I have seen both the other forms over here frequently enough to think that all are acceptable.
(Not that that is saying much - these days all sorts of peculiar sentence constructions and word spellings pass as "accepteable".) [/grouch]
"he had it in so far that...."It was 'she' who *had it.
tsk tsk, said she, non-linguistically.
