I'm going to tread carefully on this borderline political topic, as Father Steve just has on "Human Hues," and ask what y'all think about this nickname for US President Bush's idea to bring in temporary workers from abroad. I don't think it's appropriate here to discuss the pros and cons of the policy itself, just the term. To me it smacks uncomfortably of the not-so-long-ago German Gastarbeiter program, which wasn't exactly a success.

... which wasn't exactly a success.

Which, the word or the program?

**********

I'll suggest the words "enemy combatant" as an alternative...

...or maybe we could call them "job recoveries".

President Bush's idea to bring in temporary workers from abroad Well, Anna, I have not heard of this idea, but it sounds suspiciously like he's trying to use a coat of whitewash.
