Have I made this word up or does it actually exist? I tried to use it today and my computer's spell check rejected it, so I looked in my dictionary and it wasn't there! I tried OneLook and they didn't recognise it either, but it seems a perfectly normal word to me. Does anyone else know of it?

Nope,
all I've ever heard used is appropriateness.

I'm with Jackie.

If I saw the word my guess would have been that it was another word for piracy.

"To appropriate" turns into "appropriacy" in the same way that "to pirate" turns into "piracy". So hang around for another 20 years and it might make it into the dictionary.

...except that 'pirate' was a noun which got verbed.
