Has anyone heard of a term for synonyms that are hidden in a word, in order? For example: deceased has "dead" inside of it and in order. Fabrication has "fiction". I've come up with a lot of these and just wondered if there was a term for them.

Heh! That's funny! I'm amazed what people can do with language.
( My betters may have a word for it )

Hi John,
I don't know, but someone here will.
Give us a few more examples while we wait.
Welcome.

Anu had this as a theme and I finally remembered the term: kangaroo words.

Here's the Wiki article:

Yes, that's it! I remember. Now we have to check the list if we think we find a new one.

In the words in the list the characters do not shift places.
John has some free ones and some strict ones.

Don't know if these count or not, but this is fun!

bedazzle - daze
stricken - sick
ponderous - onerous
espouse - pose
supposition - posit

I wonder if there is a similar term for words that contain an antonym.

Hi! no guy Porcupine , and I ain't gonna call you Porc.
It's fun, which counts a big deal.
Only this game has a little disturbing side effect. Yesterday evening when I was reading I had to force my mind to read on without looking for possible Kangarooish Words.

We'll see if the words will be rejected-red.

I came up with some more. Some are a stretch, but oh well.

That is really cool, John.

Sneaking a peek from work, so I've no time to think of some off the top of my head, but I am enjoying this thread.

okay, who's going to wade through wikipedia's list of kangaroo words (see above) and determine how many have been covered here?

-joe (determined not to) friday

edit: but here is the site search for this occasional theme.

Oh! butterfly, flutter by!

Which is more like an anagram?

BranShea is brash. She thinks that The Netherlands is her lands and thinks that American men are mean. But not me. I am a Puerto Rican.

See? Den Haag is but a den of harageous artists. Look closely and you might see The BranShea.

themilum, I took back those rash words. I should have looked up harangeous before acting.

That is just a great compliment. Thank you.
