Hi!
Does the above ring a bell ? If so, please tell what it means. I came across it in the lyrics of one song. Looked up in a few dictionaries.
No result.

PS. I'm a newcomer to this site / board but I find it fascinating.

Well, the lyrics are here: http://www.lyricsdownload.com/hey-heledore-babe-lyrics.html Not the most cheerful of songs.

My only guess is that it's a name.

It appears to be an Eastern European (Polish?) first name feminine.
Welcome aBoard, Miros.

It is sure enough a first name. Heledore Dufaut bought a parcel of land from the Illinois Central Railroad in Beaverville Township in Iroquois County, Illinois, between 1831 and 1882.

Thx for your answer. I agree that it's a name but don't agree that it's a Polish one. I would know as i'm from here / there (depending on which side of the globe yr looking).
PS. Please don't tell me any stupid polish jokes ( No, you wouldn't.
It's a joke )

Welcome, miros.

I have never encountered this as a word or name before, but note there seems to be a biblical connection in the root:

[Heleb] in the Bible, mighty man. An alternate form is Heled. He may be the captain Heldai in First Chronicles.

http://www.bartleby.com/65/he/Heleb.html

Heled - this world, (1 Chr. 11:30); called Heleb (2 Sam. 23:29)

Perhaps this will be a starting point for one of my more biblically inclined brethren or sistren!

Occam sez:

Heledore is a name that means gift of health -- from the Greek. Hele is health, dore is the same gift that is present in Theodore, which means gift of God.

Yikes! Maybe it's just a play on "hell."

When I googled Heledore, it gave a lot of links that were to Polish sites. Not all were references to the song. What can I tell you? Thank you for clearing that up.
