An alternate definition:
Orotund: N. a Successful ascent of a very difficult rock face
etymology: oro = mountain, + tundere = to beat

Anyone see the movie now out - "Touching the Void"? I'm sure there are a few here that have read the book. Speaking of very difficult rock faces... the scenery is stunning, the story is gripping, and the method for pulling the documentary interview footage together with the re-enactments worked well. Successful ascent, yes. Graceful descent? NO.

haven't seen it, fb. sounds good. I used to do a bit of free climbing when I was in high school. (when I was young and stupid...)

this word always makes me think of "rotund". but it doesn't look like there's any relationship at all...?

au contraire; from today's word:

from os (mouth) + rotundo, from rotundus (round), from Indo-European root ret- (to run or roll). Other words derived from the same root are rodeo, roll, rotary, rotate, rotund, roulette, and round.]

I gotta read more carefully, and always read the WAD before I come here and open my big mouth...

Dr. Bill, and here I thought you'd always claimed you couldn't keep up with acronyms!
Never mind, sweet eta--I for one have opened my big mouth here, re-stating the obvious or being just plain wrong, many more times than you have. And, I might as well add, I not only appreciate your wit but absolutely cherish how supportive of others you always are.

ha! I don't remember seeing that one before...

and thanks, Jackie. I will likely do it again, and that's why I put a big smiley there...
though now that I've moved up, I'd better mind my QED's...

Dear etaoin: I assure you I had no idea what the acronym
was supposed to mean. I was tempted to post something
salacious, such as Take Back Your P.... (posy, perhaps.)
