Probare is also the root of the words containing "prov-" approval, The "proof"
is in my dictionary.

Not derived directly from probare, but just in front of "probity" in my dictionary, is the word "probit". This is a modern word meaning "unit of probability based on deviation from mean of standard distribution", derived from PROBability unIT. But of course probability is itself derived from probare. It was interesting to see this way of making up a word; new to me, but I like it.
