This General Topic gets so little use, and its meaning is so unclear, that I respectfully suggest it be dropped

Otherwise thanks for Wordsmith, long may you toil

*What* general topic?
Posted By: Buffalo Shrdlu Re: (?) Weekly Themes - 12/21/05 09:54 AM

Posted By: inselpeter Re: (?) Weekly Themes - 12/21/05 11:40 AM
Como?
Posted By: Buffalo Shrdlu Re: (?) Weekly Themes - 12/21/05 11:52 AM
dale is feeling that this category gets little use, so it should be deleted.
Posted By: maverick Re: (?) Weekly Themes - 12/21/05 12:17 PM
I vote Monday. Mondays are no use at all.
Posted By: inselpeter Re: (?) Weekly Themes - 12/21/05 01:59 PM
Mav: seconded

Rog: got that, just don't see how it's general; but nevermind
Posted By: Buffalo Shrdlu Re: (?) Weekly Themes - 12/21/05 02:09 PM

the over-arching category containing Weekly Themes is called General Topics.
Posted By: inselpeter Re: (?) Weekly Themes - 12/21/05 04:00 PM
Oh. Never even noticed.

What else would you like us to say? You've made your suggestion.
Posted By: dalehileman Re: (?) Weekly Themes - 12/22/05 12:22 AM
Anna: Well, you could give me some support, or you could disagree; or you could contribute a helpful idea; eg, discuss the philosophy behind the Weekly Theme; or suggest a definition for this heading, listing a few typical examples; etc etc etc

ok, this is the fifth time I've been drawn here by the <new posts> flag only to look at the same thread, so I'm gonna add this real new post to see if it stops the hissy fit!
Posted By: Buffalo Shrdlu Re: Sprachgefuhl - 12/22/05 11:08 PM
I always go to "My Home" page and "mark all read" when I leave.

after you've done that, do you have to then click on "mark all posts as read"?

(I'm not trying to be a wizeguy -- clicking on "mark all read" takes me to a new screen which has a "mark all posts as read" link. so who's the wizeguy?!)
Posted By: Buffalo Shrdlu Re: Sprachgefuhl - 12/23/05 09:52 AM
yeah, it makes sure you *really want to do it. so click 'em both.
Posted By: maverick Re: Sprachgefuhl - 12/23/05 11:05 AM
yeahbut, my post did indeed clear the marker for me without doing that anyway! So it must be something to do with not resetting a cookie...?
Posted By: Buffalo Shrdlu Re: Sprachgefuhl - 12/23/05 12:01 PM
I think the cookies are crackers, sometimes.
Posted By: tsuwm Re: Sprachgefuhl - 12/23/05 09:02 PM
there seems to be something about this thread that makes it continually evidence the "feature".

Oh, OK. "Weekly Themes" used to have a new forum each week, back when subscribership was small. Wordsmith has left the individual ones up from a long time ago, and sometimes they still are used. He's a busy guy; this is not his first priority. You asked: I think things are pretty good the way they are, so kvit your kvetching.

But getting back to to words and language....

yeah, it's doin' it again for me...

RE: My thrust to improve things is often misinterpreted as criticism by those so inclined

Oh most definately! how can you think to improve perfection?

is AWAD perfect? yes, like a truly loved spouse is perfect.

Yes, it has what could be considered (by unknowing people) annoying attributes, but we have come to see them for what they are, part of a total package that is loved as it is!

We love AWAD, just the way it is. (and stick around, we'll come to love you too, the same way!)
Posted By: dalehileman Re: (?) Weekly Themes - 01/04/06 01:48 AM
Helen: I wouldn't say "perfection," but AWAD is easier to use than some sites of this sort. For instance, I find Phrase Finder to be extraordinarily difficult

Edited to apologize for the alliteration

What alliteration?
