apophatic
Adj. 1. apophatic - of or relating to the belief that God can be known to humans only in terms of what He is not (such as `God is unknowable')

I think man has as much chance of understanding God as my dog (if I still had one_) would have of understanding what
I do with my computer.

Most excellently useful word, wwh! I have no earthly idea how I'll remember this one, but I do like the concept here.

Now: What would be the connection between apathy and apophatic? Any at all or just coincidence of the 'ap'? You know, as coincidental as apples and apathy or apples and apophatic.

Offhand, apathy is just the lack of feeling.

a-pathos

Yes, wwh. I see.

But apophatic.

Is that a-pophatic (I guess not)

or:

apo-phatic with 'apo' meaning one thing and 'phatic' meaning another?

Phatic from Greek phatos 'spoken' from phanai 'to speak; cognate with aphasia.
