Remember all these words were supposed to be known by highschool kids. There sure
are many I did not know in highschool. But of course us wordaholics know them all.
Eleven of the "A" words are medical terms. Thirteen of the words have been used
in AWADtalk before. I'll just list them, and post about a couple that may be of interest.
Goddam the software. I spent a lot of time making nice neat columns, and the software
undid all my work.

abducent abiogenist anagogic argyrodite
acetabulum acromatism anatropus armigerous
acquiescence alkalize anchusa arsenide
addlepated alopecia anemometry arthroscopy
adjuvant altazimuth anesthesia artillerist
affianced alveolus anosmia asbestos
aleatory amblyopia antiphlogistic auscultation

Acetabulum is the anatomical term for the socket into which the head of the femur fits.
Mildly interesting derivation: "little vinegar dish". Somebody else pick one.

Somebody else pick one.

Anosmia means the loss of the sense of smell, comes from Greek for smell – osme.

Then again, could be “an os mi a fiver”.

Antiphlogistic - There used to be an ointment called "Antiphlogistine" allegely efficacious
in threatment of inflammation. The directions clearly stated that it was "for external
application only" meaning on the skin. One of my wife's patients applied it to her private
parts, and when she came down the street, her feet were hardly touching the pavement.
Applied to the private parts the ointment was decidedly "phlogistic".
