It is natural that a city girl would have no idea what a crook is for. The crook can be slipped around the neck of a sheep to separate it from other sheep. It would not be of any use with a wolf. Little old David needed a sling.

But today, wwh, we use similar shaped staffs in the garden for hanging potted flowers, commonly mums and geraniums and we still call them crooks, dont we? Or are they simple garden hooks?
