I was born right-handed, but keyboarding, playing piano, and juggling have brought me to the point of being ambisinistrous.

*HEH*, just stumbled across this one.

as promised, i'll reveal (once again) that i'm usually lefthanded. like tsuwm, years of piano and other instruments as well as keyboarding have pretty much made both of my hands equal in most tasks, though.

Bin auch Linkshänder...

Reminds me of a definition from "The Meaning of Liff" (Douglas Adams & John Lloyd)

The word/place was "southwick", and in the interest of creating general annoyance and avoiding the gutter police, I'm not going to tell you what the definition is.

Here's a link to "The Meaning of Liff" with a mile long list of daffy neologisms, some with mildly risible daffynitions, but no "southwick" damn it!

I play piano pretty well, violin up to a intermediate level, African drums a bit well with instructions from a master...

But I cannot catch a ball or, indeed, any projectile.

All that said, I prefer to use my left hand in certain circumstances; my right, in others.

I would much rather use the left hand in the customary way on the fingerboard and let the right hand and arm work out the sensitivity required of bowing.

I thought it might be interesting to add on this thread that my right hand is ever-so-slightly larger than my left.

If a southpaw is a southpaw, doesn't that make the others northpaws?

The so called "higher" phylla - including that which contains humans - are bilaterally symmetrical.

It is for this reason, plus to stop me tipping over and providing somewhere to stow my watch and wedding ring, that I have a left side. Otherwise it is of no use whatsoever.

PS - this is my first Animal Safari post!!

[useless info]With the exception of the testes, the left of which is lower in the vast majority of cases.[/useless info]

As monorchids (sp?) know full well, one can even do without one's leftie!

Ooh, I saw two Aussies in a post off, and thought I might see what was going on. Little did I know.... At least I know why this post is titled beasts .

the testes, the left of which is lower in the vast majority of cases

Can you imagine the grant-proposal of the researcher who verified that factoid???

a taylor would be able to, i think. since mens trousers are cut and fitted in the crotch to accomate-- likewise, the testes tend to hang to one side or the other, especially in fitted clothes. a taylor might ask a gentleman if he dresses to the right? -- for no other reason than to fit the trousers.

and since even infants exhibit a tendence to have one testes lower, i expect it wasn't that hard to verify!
