Whitman, don't kill me...but I am appropriating your posts entirely, and copying them over to here, having taken note of Max's wise notification that the thread they were in was getting too long. If you want to reclaim them, I'll be happy to delete this!

I think these may not only be helpful for newcomers, but fun for us oldcomers. I'm putting one in Historic, not because it's particularly great, but because I think it is quite representative of our overall style.

Re: Best Threads List

---------------------------------------------------------

Many of us, as new arrivals, found ourselves overwhelmed at the number of posts and threads to sort through. And especially now, with so many threads, time does not permit a lengthy examination of past material. So, to help newcomers and current residents alike, board members have submitted threads they've chosen as some of the best discussions shared on AWAD in each individual's memory. A highlights guide and orientation for those who wish to peruse threads that show the best AWAD has to offer, this list illustrates the many stimulating and sparkling moments of discourse that have made AWAD a special place and kept so many of us around to share in its ebullient chemistry.

(note to board members: any editing suggestions on intro please PM me)

Re: Milestone/Historical Threads List

--------------------------------------------------------

Here is a member-submitted compilation of threads that capture some of the building blocks in AWAD history including the first discussion of the board designations ("stranger," Pooh-Bah," etc.), special coined words and phrases unique to the site (AYLEUR, YART, etc.), and other noteworthy postings along the way.

1. "graduation" Miscellany 4/8/2000 - the first discussion of what the board designations ("stranger," Pooh-Bah," etc.) were all about
