Hey, I've got a great word that everybody should know--and it's in all dictionaries--and I just learned it. And it's a neat word. But I may be last to know it and everybody already knows it. However, if most of you don't know it, we could play it. It's a word that looks like a word that everybody already knows, but its meaning is different from what I expected it to mean.

So, I'm going to write it here below, and, if it's a word that all of you definitely already know the definition of--come on, don't look it up!!!--then just laugh me out of Dodge. But don't assume you definitely know the definition, unless you definitely know its definition. Here's the word and I'll duck for cover if everybody already knows it:

prolate

If many of you don't know what it means, then we'll play, ok? And you can send (PM) your fantasized definitions to Wordwind.

Best regards,
WW

Important P.S.:

If a few of you know what it means, just write here that you know, but don't give it away because there may be a lot of people out there who don't know what it means, and we can play. That would work, wouldn't it?

Okay, I don't know and I'll venture looking silly. Thinking of percolate, which indicates movement, I'll go for "roll over." (And now I've GOTTA look it up. I can't stand not knowing.)

OK. We have two definitions that have been submitted, so the game is on.

Deadline: A week from Sunday and that should be about September 8th, right?

Don't be embarrassed if you don't know this word even though tsuwm and CapK know it.

And this word will come in handy if you ever have to take a vocabulary test. It's a useful word.

Best regards,
WW

Well, if you ever have to take a vocabulary test that prolate happens to be on...

My Dear Miss Percolating wordwind,

Running a Hogwash is a pretty big chore for a nice, sugar and spice, namby-pamby, bright and intelligent, woman.

Remember what happened the last time you had the audacity to buck the authority of the Great tsuwm and conduct a Hogwash of your own......Yes, that's right...ninety-five per cent of the Hogwash regulars bolted the board and moved to Australia and the game was never finished.

Only I remember the Hogwash word in that ill-fated game. The word was "diamorphinferiorism".

Only I knew the answer. And I was cheated out of two points.

That was then, this is today and I know the definition of prolate . Please promise that this time you will stay until I get my two points.

Milum.

PS:
TEd always gives his Hogwash games a certain individual flair,
like "Holiday Hogwash" or "les Hogwash des rois.
But if you prefer just plain ole Hogwash... [shrug]
