Somebody please tell me this refers to cut paper designs.
I cannot find my source of this word which I used when publishing some quilt related patterns...clear back in 1978. But I didn't make it up! And I can't find it in any dictionary I have...even old 2 volume Webster unabridged one from 1937!!! End my frustration, please! Thanks.

Dear des: I just typed "papyrotamia" in Yahoo! search box and got almost a dozen URL's about art things made from folded and cut paper. Maybe one of them is what you are looking for. Bill Hunt

Allo des

I found several sites that describe papyrotamia as cut paper designs...

http://www.brown.edu/Facilities/University_Library/publications/cards/samples.html

From http://www.stuttgart.army.mil/citizen/1205/colonial.htmone
: Papyrotamia, or the art of paper cutting, was a special treat in the colonial days because paper was considered precious. The Garmisch children snipped cats and snowflakes out of brightly colored paper and mounted them on a black background.

So no, you are not losing your mind. Yet.
