Clay pigeons and sitting ducks both stand for easy targets.

Unfortunate difficult target:
In a current exhibition in the Rotterdam Natural History musuem one of the items shown is a stuffed sparrow. Killed by a cricket ball played by the legendary Jehangir Kahn (1910-1988)on the third of July 1936 at Lord's.

This sparrow is the only one ever known to be killed in flight in a cricket match.
It is exhibited on top of the ball that killed him. A serious museum item on green velvet on a shining wooden pedestal in a show uniquely dedicated to the House Sparrow.

You think, but do you have evidence? See the sorry picture post 1 .

When you are a sparrow,

I don't have a picture of a dead bird conveniently posed atop a baseball in some museum somewhere, but do you accept the New York Times as a reliable source? And apparently this wasn't the first time it's happened.

Yes, that's evidence and in my favorite stadium as well. What a coincidence. I keep in account that I must make a little distinction between a hand-thrown ball and a heavier ball hit with a bat, but it's fair enough. The birds are bigger, (a little advantage to get a hit) but... Fair enough!

Wasn't there a story about Fabio (a male model for romance novel covers who somehow became a celebrity) colliding with a goose while riding a roller coaster?

Fabio Hit By Flying Bird on Apollo's Chariot

Williamsburg, VA - March 30, 1999 -- Supermodel Fabio suffered a one-inch cut on his nose after a bird hit him while riding the new Apollo's Chariot roller coaster at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

I don't want to put the link, because I got a bunch of pop-ups. If somebody's determined to find it, Google Fabio goose.

And what lovely fodder for the language nit-picker.

BranShea, did you see your comment was included in AWADmail 261? It shows the Great Anu does read this board from time to time...

Yes, thanks, that was a nice surprise. It must have been the silent call from cricket. India like Pakistan is a great cricket country. I love cricket. Even though I do not really like the white sweater and slipover-culture and the umpires always look like ( how to describe? ), the game is fascinating.( I know I can hardly say this in the land where baseball is KING and RULER. So forgive me, I love baseball too.
