OP I just received an E-mail from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Some possible sightings were reported from the team in Arkansas last week:

I hope it proves to be a positive ID.
Thank you Annastrophic, most current Ivory Bill site on the net.
I couldn't get the link to the double knock calls to play but I'm sure that after 18,000 hours of listening for bird calls their fix on the distinctive sound must be convincing. (Although 18,000 recorded hours of studied sounds from the deep Arkanasas woods would probably yield up bird notes that score the national anthem.)
It would be a sad day indeed if when the study is completed in 2007 it is concluded that the Ivory Billed Woodpecker is no longer extant.
What a magnificent bird it is...or was.
OP Yes, a beautiful bird, from the drawings I've seen. Having quietly observed a pair of pileateds up close and personal for 3 consecutive days in late August, methodically, geometrically stripping the bark from a dead tree right outside my window, I can only imagine an ivory bill. You can sign on to the Lab of O's mailing list at their web site -- you don't have to be a member.
(You can also buy the tee-shirt! )
