Being a tyro at this PC business I never have much luck with the search function. Either it doesn't find the word, or when it does it informs me that it is indeed to be found in several files but it doesn't tell me which ones

Sorry Mistuh Hileman, it's a need-to-know basis. ;]

Um--a word, just in case there are some people who haven't realized this: the Search in this line About Us | What's New | Search | Site Map | Contact Us is for the Word A Day section.

The Search in this line
Control Panel · My Home · Main Index · Search · Active Topics
is for AWADtalk.

When you use the second one, you should get either that nothing was found, or a list of posts that contain that word or phrase. I've never gotten anything else. I will say that I have never checked the Show a preview of post body with results. option--perhaps that would help?

I've not done very many searches on the new board, but one problem (for me, anyway) on the old board was that I'd get too many results; that is, say I searched for the word air--I would get every post that had the words pair, fairer, etc. Don't know if it's like that here or not, but if it is, it might be worth trying a trick a friend told me about: leave a space, then type your word, then put another space.

Or either that or "of", one.

Jackie: Thank you, poor gal. But next time you're in touch with Anu you might mention the confusion and complexity about searching

The way Google does it, the first few hits are in the order of your entry, then the remaining hits contain any or all of the search words but in no special order

Thank you again for infinite patience

Do you like light lagers, dark, imports, domestic specialty types, porters, ales, stout, wheaties, etc

Soon as I know I shall lay in a supply

I have resources and look forward to your visit

Yes actually--if you're reading them at the tops of these screens, that is.

well, the reason for the question (and the wink) is that I think you'll search the site in vain (other than the archives, unless I'm missing something obvious) for the old AWADtalk name. the Site Map and About Us page also have Wordsmith Talk -- which just makes ref's to AWADtalk confusing to our new folks.

Yeahbutİ [still without any anger e]--my point was that what's listed at the tops of these screens as "Wordsmith Talk", is actually for the "A.Word.A.Day" part only--and that is NOT this bulletin board that I'm typing in right now.
You're right about the confusion, though--sorry, everybody. I never did really like the name AWADtalk; Wordsmith Talk is much better, to me.
