I had a Shih Tsu named Cooper. As a puppy, she developed a condition called coprophagia. This is a condition whereby puppies will eat their own excrement immediately after defecating. They grow out of it. Cooper did. She never developed a taste for Skor(ia) bars.

One answer for your dog's habit, is that, if female, it cleans
up after the pup's it birthed, to prevent predators from finding
the newly born.
