OP A story appeared in the local paper (Honolulu Advertiser) using the term "strangulate" to describe what the accused had done to the victim (i.e., he "strangulated" her). I believe strangulated has a medical connotation and cannot be used interchangeably with strangled. On the other hand, "she died of strangulation" sounds all right to me (clearly a medical condition). and I can't think of a different noun equivalent of strangle. So, do we have a case where the two words, strangle and strangulate, have different connotations as verbs, but share a single noun form meaning?
